We must be careful when considering a change to certain terms in the Bible. Some adjustments may be okay, like when the Apostle Paul is addressing the church and we change the word “brethren” to “brothers and sisters.” However, we must be careful when considering the phrase “sons of God” in Scripture. Although contemporary society demands we change the phrase to “sons and daughters of God,” doing so may change the theological intent.

In the Bible, the term "sons of God" is used to describe both men and women in a spiritual sense, emphasizing their relationship with God and their potential to share in his divine nature. This concept is found in both the Old and New Testaments and reflects the biblical understanding of humanity’s special connection with the Creator.

Creation in the Image of God: In the book of Genesis, it is stated that God created humanity in his own image (Genesis 1:26-27). This means that both men and women were fashioned with a spiritual dimension that sets them apart from the rest of creation. This divine image is not limited to one gender but applies to all human beings.
Spiritual Adoption: The New Testament builds upon this concept, emphasizing that through faith in Jesus Christ, individuals become children of God. In John 1:12-13, it is written that “But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” This adoption into God’s family is not gender-specific; it applies equally to men and women.
Equality in Christ: The apostle Paul, in Galatians 3:28, underscores the equality of men and women in Christ, stating, “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” In Christ, both genders share the same status as children of God.
