Advent - Hope

Waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.
— Titus 2:13

Today is the first Sunday of Advent.  It is a day when we declare that our hope is found in Christ alone.  Our great God and Savior Jesus Christ is our hope as we live our lives in this world today, and he is our hope as we wait upon his return as King.

During this season leading up to Christmas the world seems to spin faster.  It gets busier and sometimes it feels out of control.  I encourage you to let go of all the things that so easily hinders.  To breathe deep.  Try that now: take a deep breath in…and let it out.  Spend some time in quiet meditation.  Meditation simply means to think upon.  I want you to think upon the Lord…to turn your eyes upon Jesus…to focus on him and do as Psalm 46 tells us, to be still and know that he is God.

Today's Scripture passage - Isaiah 2:1-5:

The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.

It shall come to pass in the latter days
    that the mountain of the house of the Lord
shall be established as the highest of the mountains,
    and shall be lifted up above the hills;
and all the nations shall flow to it,
    and many peoples shall come, and say:
“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
    to the house of the God of Jacob,
that he may teach us his ways
    and that we may walk in his paths.”

For out of Zion shall go the law,
    and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
He shall judge between the nations,
    and shall decide disputes for many peoples;
and they shall beat their swords into plowshares,
    and their spears into pruning hooks;
nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
    neither shall they learn war anymore.

O house of Jacob,
    come, let us walk
    in the light of the Lord.
