A doxology is a short prayer or hymn of praise that extols the glory and majesty of God. Doxology simply means “glory” or “praise.” The following are seasonal doxologies that can be used for special holidays and services.
ADVENT DOXOLOGY
Glory in the highest heaven,
To the Father and the Son,
And the Spirit he has given,
Hallowed be the Three in One.
– written by Matt Boswell (2016)
CHRISTMAS DOXOLOGY
Praise to you, O Lord, we sing.
Praise to Christ, our newborn King!
With the Father, Spirit, One,
Let your lasting kingdom come.
– written by Thomas Ken (1674)
EASTER DOXOLOGY
O risen Christ, ascended Lord,
All praise to Thee let earth accord;
Who art, while endless ages run,
With Father, and the Spirit, One.
– Medieval Latin, tr. by Benjamin Webb (1819–1885)
PENTECOST DOXOLOGY
Praise God, who sends his Spirit down,
Praise him, all people gathered ‘round,
Praise Jesus, and all languages known,
Praise him, who loves us as his own.
– written by Steven D. Brooks (2020)
